Sunlight and Vitamin D: Nature's Prescription for Longevity
It isn't yet known if it is strictly a lack of nature's most potent medicine that renders an individual susceptible to these diseases and conditions, if increased sun exposure (such as sunbathing on the beaches of the northern Gulf of Mexico) and/or other vitamin D3 sources such as vitamin D supplementation (today's supplements are nearly all the superior D3, a remarkable turnaround from just a decade ago) is a means of prevention of the aforementioned health maladies or if the truth encompasses some combination thereof. That being said, the direction of the research certainly by most if not all accounts would appear to indicate a trend suggesting the latter (some combination of deficiency = increased risk AND increased intake by sun or by capsule = decreased risk).
Vitamin D3: A Reason to Go Fishing (Or Go to the Beach)?
In one image, we have what could arguably be described as a perfect sunset. In another, an incredible photo of hundreds of beach-dwelling birds crowded together atop the dry surface of a 'tidal island', or a temporary island created by outgoing tide dropping water levels by as much as two feet or more, exposing dry sand away from the shoreline where sandbars have accumulated as a result of hurricanes, drainage and other reasons.
Sunbathing For Health and Leisure
What was once considered by many if not most within both the medical and non-medical populations as being potentially hazardous to one's health (it still should be enjoyed in moderation - few if any things in life are good when done in excess), sunbathing and sun exposure in general has been shown to be the most natural way to proactively encourage good health and promote longevity.
The sun's UV rays make contact with vitamin D receptors located in the hair follicles in skin fuel the process of vitamin D creation and metabolism that in many, many instances separates those who live long, healthy and disease-free lives (obviously, nobody lives forever and nobody goes through all of life without ever getting sick, however the frequency and severity do appear to be directly intertwined with among other factors, vitamin D3 intake whether by sun or by supplement.
Thus, with sunbathing proving to be a leisure activity that can help stave off disease and extend one's lifespan, it stands to reason that going fishing during the summer and going to the beach are activities that can be justified in the name of health as well as entertainment and leisure.
